This week we celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week in Leeds during our monthly Power Business Breakfast Club meeting. It was an inspirational morning. We had a superb talk from the inspiring entrepreneur Ruth Newton.

Ruth was a finalist in the Yorkshire and North East Regional Final of the National Women In Business Awards 2016. She is also the founder and director of Young Discoverers, a children’s day nursery and before and after school club providing childcare and education to children age three months to 11 years. 120 families use their services each week for their childcare needs, and they look after up to 75 children at any one time across two sites. Ruth is currently in the process of establishing a childcare recruitment business to support Young Discoverers and other businesses.

Ruth’s shared her business journey which was full of motivation, unexpected turns and humour. Her unbelievable entrepreneurial journey inspired many people in the room.

Ruth also spoke about the importance of developing a sustainable network and how Forward Ladies has helped her along the way: “You just don’t know what you don’t know – that is why you need organisations like Forward Ladies to support you along your business journey”.

– “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” so be prepared for the unexpected when you are establishing your own business;

– Never be scared to change your career direction you never know where your next chapter will lead you;

– Be passionate about what you do; if you are not enjoying what you do, you won’t be able to succeed;
