Since founding MGLC London – a media, events and PR company – Claudette DeJoir has not looked back.
MGLC has helped establish 5 major brands to date and focuses on creating opportunities for businesses through public relations, live shows, lifestyle and beauty events and business branding.
As Claudette has been shortlisted for Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (London and The South), we wanted to hear all about her journey so far.
Forward Ladies: How did you come up with the idea for your business?
CD: My business stemmed from my ability to think creatively. I wanted to use this passion to help other businesses create and take advantage of opportunities within their sectors.
Forward Ladies: What were some of the initial challenges you faced and how did you overcome them?
CD: My biggest challenge initially was creating a company that offered more than one service to a few different sectors of the market. I’m glad I dived right in with this approach as it helped lay the foundation for my business plans in the future.
I like to overcome challenges by thinking of great new ideas and building on the success of each of my ideas. I’m always moving forward.
Forward Ladies: How did you fund your business?
CD: I personally funded my business, but in the future I’m looking to grow by partnering with many different brands and sectors.
Forward Ladies: What is your top tip for growing your business?
CD: I’m always evaluating new and current business modules. You can learn a lot from them.
Forward Ladies: Why would you recommend that people build their network and find the support they need to start and grow their business?
CD: Networking and support networks are great. I’d say always go for it if it meets your requirements.
Remember that it’s not only an aid to growing your business but also a way of creating and nurturing new business models and ideas.
Forward Ladies: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
CD: Always making time for family is the key to my work / life balance.
Forward Ladies: How has mentorship made a difference in your business?
CD: Mentorship has definitely supported my business. It’s led me to big business shows in and around London and the UK – such as Forward Ladies and the Women in Business Awards. I find it really helps boost your business aspirations.
Forward Ladies: Thank you for your time Claudette, you’ve been great!
