It’s the start of another promising year and most of us will be gearing up to achieve great things this year. A lot of us will set ourselves up to fail with insane resolutions that we cannot possibly keep – beating up ourselves when we struggle – perpetuating a cycle that chips at your self-belief.
Others will not bother with new year resolutions because we have learnt they do not work for us.
One of best things you can do in this New Year instead of writing resolutions is to focus on your priorities and who you want to become as your journey through the next year. Do this instead of focusing on a list of things – things you think you are supposed to achieve!
As the year progresses and we settle into our routines, the time consuming demands on our time will start coming in asking for a piece of yourself and your time. The thing that is going to keep you on track during this period is your ability to stay in tune with your priorities – what you value the most in life.
Focusing on your priorities will help you say yes to the right things over the course of the next 365 days.
So here are 3 simple things to do this January:
- Get your priorities right. Particularly for your personal life and business. What are your top 3 priorities for the year? Write these down.
- How are you going to ensure that you consistently direct your time and energy towards achieving these priorities? How do you need to organize your time? Make the necessary commitments and get your dairy out and schedule them in.
- Don’t give up. You’ll not always get it right but at the very least this will be a huge improvement on last year if the majority of your time is spent on things that you consider to be your priorities.
You’ll get a lot of requests for all sorts of time-consuming activities this year. They will all sound pretty interesting and sound like things you should be doing but remember that a yes to one thing means a definite no to something else.
