How to prevent breast cancer in 4 simple tips

1 in 8 women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point in their life.

1 in 5 will be under 50 years old.

These are shocking statistics but what can you and I as individuals do about this?

Breast cancer, reading those words makes many of us uneasy and with the statistics above, we are right to be concerned. We at Forward Ladies have joined forces with Breast Cancer Awareness to ease that worry by providing you with 4 simple tips to help you and your loved ones to prevent cancer.

Science tells us that more than 1 in 4 breast cancer cases are preventable.

What we eat, drink, do and the products we use all impact our health. Making simple changes in diet and lifestyle and avoiding certain chemicals can help reduce many people’s risk.

The team at Breast Cancer UK are working hard to help women to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. Here are some of their top tips:

  • Eating a healthy diet – increasing the amount of vegetables and fruit you eat, reduce the amount of processed foods and sugar.
  • Reduce the amount of alcohol we drink – have drink free days, limit the amount when you do drink, choose non-alcoholic alternatives.
  • Increase the amount we exercise – 150 mins a week will improve your health and mood, not everyone is a runner, so find an activity which fits with you.
  • Exposure to chemicals that have the ability to interfere with our hormones (known as endocrine disrupting chemicals or EDCs) can increase our risk of getting breast cancer. Reducing your use of cleaning products, creams and cosmetics that contain these chemicals can help to reduce levels in the body.

To find out more about how you can reduce your risk, Breast Cancer UK are running their annual Prevention Week from 17 – 23 September 2018.

A week of practical tips and solutions to help you make changes and form healthy habits, along with guest blogs from a range of experts in the fields of lifestyle and the environment.
