Linda Plant is an inspiration to women worldwide. She established herself through a series of challenging executive roles at a young age. She is passionate about business and has proven herself to be ambitious, motivated and driven. She is a self-made woman, and success has given her the freedom to enjoy all that life has to offer, while remaining true to her values.
Starting life from humble beginnings selling fashion from a market stall, her hard work paid off. She took her career a step further by selling her designs worldwide with her international knitwear brand, which went on to become publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange.
Today, she runs a successful property and interior design business, and has been on our screens on BBC’s “The Apprentice” interviewing the final five candidates for Alan Sugar. Linda’s success is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and forward-thinking mindset. She is living proof of her guiding ethos, “Work hard, when the going gets tough don’t give up and you will gain respect and achieve your ambitions.”
Linda was a judge and inspiring keynote at the FL National Awards & Summit. Whilst giving her keynote speech, she shared her 7 secrets of success which helped her get to where she is now.
No.1
You have to recognise opportunity. You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.
No.2
Have a vision. You should dream big but correspond that with your realistic goals. You have to walk before you can run. Be sensible, be smart, be open-minded.
No.3
Always have your feet on the ground. Trust your instincts and be guided by common sense.
No.4
Be innovative. Try to always think outside the box. Stay ahead of the curve. You don’t have a crystal but you can definitely see the future by just understanding what your goals are.
No.5
Surround yourself with a good team. A team that will work for you and work with you. People who take pride in personal achievement. You can’t do it alone. You can’t build anything by yourself. But NEVER ask anyone to do anything that you won’t do yourself. You’ve got to have the respect.
No.6
Be motivated, be driven, be passionate and be commercial. These four words will carry you through your career. And remember – success doesn’t come with the banner that’s half lifted.
No.7
Don’t be afraid to fail. We all fail at some point. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get on with the job.
